Continuing in the letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to the faithful in Rome, Rabbi Steve Berkson again emphasizes that to understand what Paul was trying to say in this letter, context is crucial.

In chapter 6, again we see the contrasting of righteousness verses unrighteousness. We see how even the believers of that time were struggling to understand the purpose of Messiah Yeshua’s death and resurrection and how it relates to them.

In chapter 7 we will hear about Paul’s personal struggle with walking in death and walking in the new life that Messiah Yeshua provided.

As we move into chapter 8 Paul begins to reveal the light at the end of the tunnel – that there is no more condemnation to those whose desire it is to walk according to the spirit; by the words that Messiah Yeshua spoke which is Torah given by His Father. (John 6:63)

Bottom line – The Apostle Paul did not teach that the Torah is now done away with but that the penalty that comes from ‘law of sin and death’ has been abolished by the work of redemption through Messiah Yeshua. Halleluyah!
