Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa Fellowship for a two-part look at parsha “Tazria” (Leviticus/Vayikra chapters 12 through 13) — and several lessons that are dramatic, not only because they are now so “politically incorrect,” but so at odds with what we have seen in the world – for centuries even – that the contrast is almost stunning.
Still though, there’s something strangely ‘familiar’ in the detail here, even if much of it may have been “turned on its head.”
The Erev Shabbat reading of the parsha is first:
In Torah cycles past, Mark has suggested that since the plague in this parsha, tzaraat (NOT ‘leprosy,’ which is quite different) for literally centuries, and certainly seems to be a physical skin condition resulting from a spiritual isse, we might ask the question, ‘Why?’ Or, why NOT?
And, since, “those He loves, He chastens,” doesn’t that say something negative about a world where even shame no longer seems to modify truly insane actions?
So, this time around, it’s a different question that sets the stage: Do we think that even if YHVH was to bring a massive plague of tzaraat on those who Evil Tongues are SO evil, that it would even make a difference?
But then again, here’s food for thought: Maybe we DID have just such a ‘plague’. Consider, The Adversary, HaSatan, is not very original. When we had real ‘cohenim,’ they were to look at the detailed description of the plague in this parsha, and then determine, literally DECLARE, that it was, or was not, ‘tzaraat’. Then the ‘metzora’ who was afflicted was to go outside the camp, maintain separation, and warn people away by saying, “unclean, unclean,” to anyone who approached.
With the Gain-of-Function Wuhan Plague, which we now know was developed on the US taxpayer’s dime, it was the High Priest of the Great God Science, Tony Fauci, who declared who and what was “unclean.” They had to put on the Mask of Shame, and maintain Social Distance, and even engage in ritual injections.
But the “Evil Speech” part was certainly familiar!
There is SO much in this portion…once the ‘dots connect,’ you can’t UN-see it.
