Does “all” always mean “all”? What is the default reaction to being afraid of something? What intimidates you?
Beginning this teaching in Numbers/Bemidbar chapter 14, Rabbi Steve Berkson explains some of the aspects of human behavior when confronted with the unknown or the perception of something terrifying. This is the event of the leaders of Israel spying on the promised land, and then the slanderous report brought back by ten of those leaders.
From there Rabbi Berkson goes to Romans chapter 8 to help us understand the meaning of the difference between the Spirit and flesh, and the law of sin and death. Without this understanding the chapter will be interpreted incorrectly.
