In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson begins in Deuteronomy 20 to examine how fear and peace cannot coexist. How do we today “do battle” with others? What’s the “fear factor” in those situations? When a situation feels overwhelming, what do you do? How does leadership fit into the picture?
Then, moving into Numbers chapters 13 and 14, Rabbi Berkson demonstrates how fear is contagious and highlights the failure of leadership when Israel went to spy out the promised land. Why did they have to “spy out” the land?
Rabbi Berkson also offers some life coaching regarding jobs or careers and discusses how the fear of change can seep into one’s walk with Yah.
From there, Rabbi Berkson addresses the issue of “evil speaking, ” in Hebrew “Lashon hara, ” literally, “evil tongue. ” He shares from the perspective of his organization MTOI, detailing the criticisms aimed at him and MTOI. He provides some behind-the-scenes insights about what others have said with the intention of negatively influencing others. Is there another ministry that would be this transparent?
