What are you afraid of? Is fear wreaking havoc on your peace? As he takes us to Exodus 14:1-15, Rabbi Steve Berkson breaks down the story of the Israelites leaving Egypt defiantly. However, when they reach the water’s edge, they become frightened. The water is before them, mountains flank them on either side and Pharaoh, with his army, traps them behind. Moses then reassures them, saying, “Do not be afraid.”
What can you do when you feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges? Rabbi Berkson analyzes Deuteronomy 7:17-23 to explain that feeling overwhelmed is an opportunity to exercise your belief/emunah in Him and experience deliverance and peace.
Next, Rabbi Berkson takes us to Deuteronomy 18:13-22, where instructions are given to Israel regarding leadership, specifically prophets. The first instruction in this passage is to ‘have integrity’. Respect the anointed/appointed leadership you have chosen to follow. However, when someone claims to be a “prophet” but fails to demonstrate genuine prophecy, you should not fear them.
