There is a lot of attention devoted to learning how to meditate. It is an important understanding. David tells us many times in the Psalms that He meditates, but what does David mean when he uses that word? I will use the music from the album “All Nature Sings” and the track “Thunder” as background for explaining my understanding of what David means by “Meditation.” Clearly, David is not talking about emptying his mind to achieve an “out of body experience.” David is talking about filling his mind with thoughts of his Heavenly Father and the careful instructions that He has written out for David to understand and have an abundant life. Much of David’s meditation took place out in the natural world observing the wonders of God’s creation. God’s instructions are not “Laws” that severely hold over us to make us do things. No, He has given us careful instructions to assist us in navigating the twists and turns of life, His desire for giving us these instructions is to walk in joy and wonderful relationship. Let’s get back to an accurate understanding of what God’s “law” is really all about.
